Overview about UTI

There are many people who suffer from UTI (Urinary Tract Infections), so we should learn more about this disease so that we can avoid it as much as possible. Here we will introduce a package of valuable information which helps us to know everything about UTI.


First, we should know that our urine system consists of kidneys, pair of ureters, bladder and urethra, so the germs can get into your urine system through the urethra, after that it can spread in all the system. Most of infections injure the bladder, but this type of infection can be easily treated. The serious problem lies in the kidneys infection that can cause chronic damage.
It is worth mentioning that women are more exposed to get UTI because they have shorter urethras, so the germs can reach their bladder easily and quickly and usually it happen during having sex. On the other hand, there are many reasons to get UTI as having diabetes or being pregnant, but the greatest chance comes if there is something that blocks the flow of urine from the bladder as kidney stones or enlarged prostate gland (for men).  

 Symptoms of UTI

When one is injured by UTI, he will feel some pathological signs and suffer from acute symptoms as the following:
- Pain during urination
- Repeated desire to urinate without large amount of urine.
- Feeling pain in the lower belly.
- Fever and chills.
- Nausea and vomiting.
Therefore, you should call your doctor if have one of this symptoms especially in the following cases:
- If you have diabetes, kidney diseases or problems in the immune system.
- If your age is more than 65.
- If you are pregnant (for women)

Therapy procedures of UTI

You should visit your doctor to examine you well, and then he will ask you to test a sample of your urine so that he can determine the type of the germs that cause the infections. After he sees the results of your urine test, he can prescribe certain antibiotics that usually cure the infection. Furthermore, you should drink a lot of water to urinate frequently.
Certainly, there is some advice that should be followed during the therapy as:
You should take the antibiotic pills exactly in the times that are determined by doctor
- Even if you feel better, don’t stop using the antibiotic pills.
- You should finish the entire therapy course to avoid getting the infection again.


Prevention is better than cure

You can protect yourself from UTI if you follow some healthy behaviors as:
- Empty your bladder completely and be sure that there isn’t residual urine inside your urethra.
- Urinate directly after having sex (especially for women).
- Use vaginal estrogen cream (for women past menopause).
Finally you should understand that you may get UTI again and again if you don’t get the correct cure, so you should go immediately to the doctor in case of feeling any of above mentioned symptoms to avoid any complications.
